WHAT ARE YOUR CORE DRIVES IN YOUR EVERYDAY WORK?
Observing even small positive steps in how societies are developing gives me hope and enormous motivation to work.
WHAT KIND OF CHANGE WOULD YOU LIKE TO BRING YOUR LOCAL& GLOBAL/REGIONAL LEVEL?
I would like to see greater interest in and awareness of Russian youth about local and global developments in politics, economics and socio-cultural sphere. Through conversations with my friends, relatives and acquaintances I am trying to raise their willingness to contribute to their own communities and social empathy. As to the regional/global level, I think that greater ecological consciousness and science-based decision-making would make our life much easier.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU THE MOST ABOUT BEING A PART OF YAGE AND DURING THE YAGE EVENTS?
Meeting young people from very different parts of our continent;multicultural teamwork thatenabled me to discover new perspectives and look at some topics from a completely different angle; practical training led by a very dedicated team from “United Netherlands”.
WHICH USEFUL SKILLS DID YOU DEVELOP WHILE BEING INVOLVED IN YAGE?
Developing a project in international environment, where each member had their own vision, negotiating, finding synergies and coming to terms was a truly useful experience. Also, the Forum offered a great opportunity to practice public speaking, pitching and debating. After that I was working in several international teams, and the skills acquired during the Forum helped me to feel myself generally more confident and to get along with people from different cultures.
WHICH IDEA OF GREATER EUROPE DO YOU ENVISION IN THE FUTURE?
I envision the continent without wars, where frozen conflicts are resolved and their consequences are mitigated, where statelessness is liquidated, where economy grows in a sustainable manner, where people feel socially secured and can effectively access justice at the national level.
WHICH STRATEGIES COULD BE USED BY YOUNG PEOPLE TO INFLUENCE THE DECISION-MAKING IN INTERNATIONAL BODIES?
To better influence decision-making, I believe, several steps should be taken. First, we should seek to create new effective platforms for the dialogue between youth representatives and decision-makers and empower already existing platforms. Second, steps should be taken to advance analytical capacity of youth NGOs to enable them to align issues and interests of young people with national/regional priorities and strategies, and to clearly present their recommendations to decision-makers. Third, it is absolutely necessary to strengthen advocacy capacity of youth NGOs to make sure their voices are heard and taken into account.
ARE YOU IN CONTACT WITH OTHER ALUMNI?
I participated in 2017 YAGE Forum that took place in Paris. Over the next year, our team of five people was working together on Greater Europe Youth Theater (GEYT) project that was piloted in August 2018, also in Paris. For the moment I am staying in contact (mostly online) with some of our team members, even met one of them last year in Berlin. I think organizing an online reunion of YAGE alumni would be a great idea.
