Normandy Format Student Conference
MGIMO University Moscow, May 13, 2016
The conference was a simulation of the “Minsk negotiations” to find realistic solutions to the conflict in Ukraine. The simulation gathered students’ teams from Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France, each of them representing their country’s position and looking for realistic ways out of the status quo.
The moderators of the conference were:
Dr. Eva Bertrand, deputy director of the Centre d’Etudes Franco-Russe, Doctor in political science of Sciences Po Paris
Dr. Igor Istomin, doctor in political science. Delivers lectures and seminars within the framework of the Department of International Political Analysis at MGIMO, Executive editor of the International Relations magazine “Mezdhunarodnye Processy” (intertrends.ru)
This was a first attempt of a student simulation for YAGE, which was positively received by many of the participants and public, as it gave the opportunity for students to participate in a unique discussion format, understand the differences between their countries’ positions and the difficulty of finding an agreement. It also generated some deeper reflection on the stakes of diplomatic talks.
